Canada’s largest documentary organization is selling its flagship cinema building at Bloor Street West and Bathurst. The cinema has hosted North America’s largest film festival for years, contributing more than $3.2 billion to Toronto’s economy in 2022, according to the City of Toronto’s Economic Development and Culture Division.
But for documentary fans and foreign filmmakers, not all hope is lost. An anonymous buyer has taken on a multi-year lease that will still allow the organization to continue running the space in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood.
