Canadian Hearing Services reach tentative deal after 10-week strike

7 July 2025 / by Mia Johnson

Striking Canadian Hearing Service workers will vote on a new labour contract Monday, July 7th, and could return to work as soon as July 14. The workers, members of Local 2073 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), include sign language interpreters. They have been on strike since April 28th. The union said no details of the tentative agreement will be released until workers have a chance to review the terms.

“Our members are incredible eager to get back to the jobs they love” Local 2073 president Mara Waern said in the press release today.

Met Radio visited workers on the Toronto picket line last week. On the frontlines, interpreter Scout Huston told us this is not solely a fight for a fair contract, but a defining moment for what they want the organization to be.
