Toronto’s largest workers union move strike deadline to Monday morning

5 March 2025 / by Mia Johnson

After weeks of negotiations, the Canadian Public Employees’ Union (CUPE) and the City of Toronto are still at odds.

The union’s president Nas Yadollahi has rejected the city’s “final offer.” In a legal strike position, she commits to striking after a 48-hour grace period, pushing that deadline to Monday, the start of March break.

Without city workers around, this leaves the approx. 4,800 kids registered for March break camps on the chopping block, and with little notice, if a “fair deal” is not set in stone.

President Yadollahi shares why negotiations are stalling. Meanwhile, City Manager Paul Johnson tells us what’s at stake and when he intends to reach a deal.
