Autistic Small Talk is a blend of research-informed discussion and personal stories. Hosted by Vanessa, a neuroqueer autistic research scientist living in the Okanagan, BC, and Vince, a passionate autistic guy who is drawn to beautiful things and is still finding himself. Together, they strive to create an accessible discussion about many aspects of autistic culture that are not well understood in the general population. The goals are:
1. to communicate in a way that is comfortable and authentic as neurominorities, prioritizing themselves in a subtle act of resistance against a culture of conformity;
2. to validate the general concept of non-normative language practices and their legitimacy;
3. to expose neurotypical listeners to some of the varied aspects of autistic communication.
Airing the first and third Wednesday of each month, at 3:00pm.
