After months of anticipation and excitement, I finally got to embark on the journey which is Jennifer Castle’s latest album, Camelot, out now.  Leading up to this release, the Toronto singer-songwriter shared three singles, “Blowing Kisses,” “Lucky #8,” and “Earth Song,” which teased how this concept album is a reflection of life. In my opinion, it is like a diary, with each song a journal entry documenting her emotions and experiences.

The album begins with the early stages of life. The song “Trust” discusses the question we all ponder: “Who should we trust?” In the second verse, Castle sings, “Scientists insinuate the facts are facts, the lines are straight.” To me, this line demonstrates that sometimes the truth is not always black and white.

Castle also expresses this idea in her song “Some Friends” where she sings “Some friends come with two different faces…”

The other half of the album reflects on the lessons  she learned through her self discovery journey. The main take away for me from these songs is that sometimes you need to take time for yourself to explore your future.

In “Fractal Canyon,” she discusses how life isn’t perfect.

This album is a 10/10 for me. I loved how deep and analytical this album is, while at the same time the production lyrics, and melodies are easy to comprehend. I also love the exploration in the production. Usually Castle’s music contains softer and minimal instrumentation, however, in this album, there is a lot of drums, guitar, and piano. With a variety of upbeat songs, Castle is definitely on my concert bucket list!
