September marks the tenth anniversary of Canadian singer-songwriter Jennifer Castle’s album Pink City. It was originally released on September 2, 2014. The Toronto-based folk artist’s song “Blowing Kisses” was featured in Season Three of the TV show The Bear. To celebrate this milestone here are my favourite songs from this dreamy album which I discovered on a rainy fall morning. It was a soft wake-up call like a warm cup of peppermint tea.

The title track “Pink City” is warm and welcoming as the production and vocals are soft and sweet; evoking the feeling of new beginnings, which to me is the theme of this album.

My other favourite song from the album is “Sailing Away.” I love the harmonies used in the chorus and the slight country feel in the guitar arrangement. The message of this song resonates with me as it gives me hope that I will find my way as a musician and media broadcaster. It is a reminder to enjoy the journey.

The song “Nature” captivated me as the piano arrangement conveys the feeling of strolling through a park.

Although this album was released ten years ago, the themes of self discovery, new beginnings and relationships, are timeless. I love the warmth in both the vocals and the instrumentation. I would rate this album a 10/10. Usually I tend to listen to more pop-based music, however, this album captivates me because Castle has her own unique musical style.

I am excited to listen to Castle’s upcoming album Camelot which drops November 1st. Her latest single “Lucky #8” is out now.
