MEDIA RELEASE Aug. 8, 2024

Toronto, ON — Toronto Metropolitan University’s campus-community radio station is hosting its first ever Block Party. Met Radio is excited to announce a free interactive radio-focused community event on Aug.16 where we’ll bring our operations out of the studio and into the streets.

From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., the entire block on Gould Street between Victoria and Bond Streets will come alive with workshops, live broadcasting and dynamic experiences that showcase the do-it-yourself (DIY) spirit of campus radio.

This special event marks a unique opportunity to experience Met Radio beyond the studio walls and engage with the essence of community-driven media, supported by Toronto Arts Council with funding from the City of Toronto.

Attendees are invited to:

Engage in hands-on workshops
Learn the ins and outs of DIY audio production, DJ techniques and more from industry professionals. Join in on our Audio Time Capsule with local journalist Yvette Sin, Kids Radio Room with Story Planet, Audio Scavenger Hunt with award-winning producer Yasaman Mansoori and DJ-ing 101 sessions with MENDOSA and DJ Trizzy.

Go live on-air
Step into the role of a radio personality and contribute to our 3-hour live broadcast from the party. Met Radio hosts Roxy from Met 30, Delphine and Micah from The Artery and other familiar voices will be live from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Steal the spotlight
Try out our open mic and share your skills with the community. Our main stage will be available from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. for attendees to perform on.

Tune in to local talent
Connect with artists, media professionals, enjoy live performances and discover our vibrant campus-community. We’ll wrap up our inaugural Block Party with live sets from local bands Odette de Crecy and Superstar Crush.

Met Radio is determined to deliver an enriching experience for everyone involved, offering valuable hands-on opportunities for community members to engage in radio-making. We can’t wait to share the joy of community radio with you all on Aug. 16 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.!
