Good news surfaced last month as Highway 407 Express Toll Route (ETR) are giving some of
their commuters a break and offering free rush hour service.
The company sent out promotions to over one million customers last month, which can last
between one to three months.
The purpose of the “Spring into Free Rush Hour” is to try and reduce the traffic that is happening
on other highway routes during peak hours across the GTA.
Highway 407 says the service will run all month between the hours of 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and
3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Enrollment for this promotion ended on Feb. 28. All eligible drivers received an email from the
company letting them know they received the free ride offer.
In order to receive the email, the company says you must have a registered 407 ETR account and
says the registered promotion can not be switched from one car to the other.
If your license plate is not registered with Ontario, you can not qualify for this promotion, and if
your driving heavy vehicle transponders, they are also not eligible for this offer.
According to the 407 ETR, customers will receive credits for trips taken between seven to 10
days before their bill date. These credits will appear on their next bill but note that transponder
lease fees will still apply.
For the duration of the promotion, all tolls, camera charges, and account fees will be waived, and
customers will see the savings reflected as a credit on their statements.
To keep up to date with future ETR promotions, the company says to keep your contact
information up to date, including your license plate and email address, and subscribe to 407’s
marketing emails.
The toll has been around for 25 years helping move people and goods quickly across the GTA. The company helps thousands of drivers, families and businesses enjoy peace of mind and a
stress-free commute everyday.
A spokesperson for the company said although the enrolment window is closed, there are more
campaigns planned over the course of the year.
“Highway 407 ETR plays a significant role in alleviating congestion in the GTA. With the
middle portion of highway 407 ETR already operating at 90 per cent capacity, promotions target
specific segments where traffic can be increased without compromising the world-class driving
experience our customers depend on,” the spokesperson said.
