CF HOLD (SEE SLACK AND DOC) – Ontario Place Protectors appeal case to Ontario highest’s court; decision pending

This week, the Ontario Place Protectors appealed their case at the province’s highest court, the Ontario Court of Appeal.

Lawyer Eric Gillespie, representing the coalition, says the Rebuilding Ontario Place Act, pushed through in 2023 without opportunity for public comment, permits the public from objecting further and for this reason is unconstitutional.

Minister of Infrastructure Kinga Surma told reporters in 2023 they had been consulting the public for years on this, fitting into their “holistic vision.”

But years down the line, residents and community members are still apprehensive.

Ontario’s Auditor General Shelley Spice report showed the Call for Development (CRD) process was not “fair, transparent or accountable,” which was presented to the court on Thursday

Is this appeal a last ditch attempt to have all construction at the Ontario Place site stopped for good?

Eric Gillespie breaks this case down, the new evidence the court will see and speculates when a decision could be made.
